State Of Origin 2013 The End
I don’t believe in miracles I don’t believe in fate
But I believe the Queensland spirit and the love of this great state.
For when the odds are stacked against us when it seems that all is lost
It’s that unfailing Queensland spirit that helps us win at any cost.
Queenslanders just don’t give in it’s our pride that keeps us strong
a love of this great state and of knowing we belong.
A passion born in battles past will see our players standing tall
they grow ten foot tall and bullet proof when they hear that Queensland call.
The Blues came out a firing some even played with pride
We matched them in the forwards but the ref was on their side.
The penalties were flowing the Blues had us on toast
Then Thurston stepped round Farrah and dived in near the post.
I let out a scream “ You Beauty “ and a tear formed in my eye
As Thurston stuck it through the sticks and put the icing on the try.
Then Maloney had a brain snap his hit on Cronk was deemed as late
And the kick went sailing through the sticks the score a magic Eight.
The Blues tried everything they could and our dropped balls made no sense
But Queensland met them head on like a stone wall in defence.
Greg Bird milked that penalty and the crowd let out a roar
Then a flick a pass to Mc Manus saw the Blues slide in to score.
The second half was just as torrid Dugan almost took that pass
then the Queenslander cry rang out and Brent Tate showed his class
He was playing like a man possessed as each high bomb he caught
The Blues just kept on coming but all their efforts yielded naught.
So many times we turned them back I saw a tear in Daleys eye
Then Cronk hit Hodges on the chest and they all knew the end was nigh.
When Merrin scored my heart sunk, I thought here comes a final gasp
but The Queenslander spirit rose again and ripped it from their grasp.
They just had no answer , it tore the heart out of the crowd
Eighty thousand fans went silent as the siren sounded loud.
Heads were bowed in shame their bodies bruised and bent
Collapsed there on that field of dreams every ounce of effort spent.
That big lady started singing the Blues team let out a sigh
I kissed my Queensland jumper as Cam held the shield on high
Eight in a row you beauties! on this victory will we dine
dare we look into the future and start to dream of
Nine.
You little bloody Beauties
