Volunteers Week commences 12 th May

THE VOLUNTEERS

When ever there is trouble
and whenever there is strife,
whenever grief and heartache
should cut through us like a knife.

There are souls you can depend on
to help to tend us in our need,
driven on by simple kindness
not by power, or fame, or greed.

Comfort in times of sorrow
a warm bed sheltered from the cold.
Food to feed those who are hungry
their hearts are made of gold.

Perhaps its searching for a loved one
or delivering meals most every day,
or that simple little phone call
just to check that you're ok.

They are there at the Olympics
and at every other sporting meet,
outside our school grounds every day
lolly popping in the street.

We seem to take them all for granted
though we never really should.
their service is immeasurable
their hearts so pure and good.

We should honour them and cherish them
for their efforts o'er the years.
Where would we be without them
we all salute our volunteers.

You're right Bob. Their blood's worth bottling. That's an old expression isn't it. Haven't heard it for a while. But thinking about it, we'd have a lot of bottles of blood and no volunteers.
Enjoyed the read.

It got a run in the local paper yesterday and I got a few comments today at the show I did at the retirement village.

Cheers Bob

G/day Bob,
My wife does volunteering at 'Meals On Wheels'
and your right if all the volunteers stayed home the country would grind to a halt.
