The Observer
Maureen Clifford © The Scribbly Bark Poet
Slumbering dogs and bumbling bees and flower edged garden borders,
small garden ponds with frog and carp.
The coo of doves, the trilling lark,
the forest walk ‘neath cypress dark
where Pine needles so soft and green, braceleted running water.
The stone floor - rough across the bridge, light breezes floral sweet.
Dig deep and all will be revealed
as in the distance church bells pealed
whilst children chased and laughed and squealed.
The urgent sound of running feet, on pavements down her street.
A sea of trees her view obscured. A sense of urgency
a siren ringing and a bell.
Clang clang! Clang clang !– Fire trucks as well.
Abandoned tenements, earth’s hell
now set to burn - as some will tell by an incendiary.
