Writin' Rules
Writin’ Rules
I’d like ter give a word uv thanks
ter those in our committee’s ranks
wot writ our rules (oops, guidelines, eh?),
cos, seems ter me, we gotta say
that they done good fer verse that rhymes,
an’ that ain’t easy in these times
when folks’re bloody ’ard ter please,
an’ no-one ever quite agrees.
It seems they’ve sorted much that’s right
wiv things we’ve argued on this site,
so now we gotta run ’em in
an’ see which ones should ’it the bin,
an’ which of ’em should get the tick,
before we builds ’em, brick by brick.
There’ll be some give, there’ll be some take,
fer greater good, an’ future’s sake.
As sure as eggs is eggs it’s true
that writin’ rules can bury you
in “I want this” an’ “I want that”,
an’ “It’s not fair, you stupid prat!”
But someone, somewhere, ’as ter start
an’ risk they’ll get a broken ’eart
by settin’ down in white an’ black
the thoughts ter ’elp us keep on track.
So well done, all you ’ardy souls
'oo took a punt an’ walked the coals
ter show ’ow we might get ahead
by writin’ down wot’s often said.
So if it’s “must” or “may” or “should”,
or “can” or “can’t” or “will” or “would”,
it’s up ter us ter ’ave our say
an’ shine the light that shows the way.

Re: Writin' Rules
Thanks, Val.
Not a problem, Hal. It's obvious that a lot of work has gone into the Guidelines and the result is comprehensive, well-written, and very useful. Congratulations to all concerned. I have a few thoughts, which I'll send through separately for consideration.
Cheers

Re: Writin' Rules
Your input would be most welcome David whether on the forum where others can comment or direct to the Secretary to put on to the Agenda for the next committee meeting 24th September, 2014.
Thanks David,
Hal

Nicely said and a timely reminder to us all that 'we' are the 'they'
