The Black Dog

The black dog lurks in shadows deep
invades your world when you should sleep.
always somewhere in your mind
it seems that you can ever find
that place where all is peaceful dreaming
without the hate and evil scheming.
Close your eyes and drift away
for tomorrow is another day.


Sleep itself brings some relief
from painful never ending grief
but once again I wake in fright
enveloped by the still dark night.
The morning comes and brings the dawn
and safety from the devils spawn.
I rise to face another day
for it’s the piper I must pay.
