NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY

Let’s raise a glass and wash away the past
and party till the midnight hour is here.
Can’t live it over, that’s too hard to ask,
just take the path ahead; another year.

that in it’s time will fade, as did the last.

Try not to notice how the years go fast,
how all those treasures that we held so dear
have, in their time still faded like the last
old year, and year before and year by year.

Though hindsight seems to be so wise and clear,
can’t live it over that’s too hard to ask,
and surely something new is worth a cheer;
let’s raise a glass to wash away the past.

Don't scrub too hard Nevvie. You don't want to live a threadbare life.

You clever little vegemite Neville. Amazing what you can do with two good rhyming sounds.

First thing I'm going to do in the New Year is buy a new kettle - discovered, sadly, that putting the kettle on without water shortens the life of the kettle and makes an awful smell - I wouldn't recommend it.

Happy New Year everyone. I hope your kettles are all full of water, your pens full of ink, the muse nudging your writing hand and you don't have to take too many pills or visit the doctor more than a couple of times in 2015. And if I could wish away all your aches and pains I would, 'cause that's what friends are for.

Hi Nev I’m taking an opposite tack.
To hell with the future just let me go back.
I’d like to do those things I promised to do
when the future was coloured a far away hue,

and follow the pathways that weren’t so well paved
instead of the ones that my parents had saved
for me - telling often “That’s risky you know.
Just get a good job it’s the right way to go.

You’ll be going to uni some learning to get.
That rock band will see you forever in debt.
And you know you’ll have several serious romances
with girls that you’ve met at churches and dances,

so remember you’re trousers must always stay zipped
and we’re Anglicans son so stick to the script.”
But I’m putting too much on my parents you see
'cause the buck has to stop where the buck’s meant to be

and I guess what it means when it’s all said and done
is there’s only one person can shape the home run.
Though there’s changes I’d make given half of a chance,
they’re really quite minor. I’ve enjoyed the whole dance.


Epilogue

Now just so I don’t leave y’all with the notion
I’d rather be swimming in some other ocean
I want you to know that I’m laid back, laconic.
The sounds of my future are really harmonic.
With my family, my friends and the members of ABPA
I’m going to live happily ever aff-ta.
