Versitis
I’m sure you know “bursitis”,
like when your shoulder’s sore,
but Wazza’s got “versitis”…
and that you can’t ignore!
Because when you’re afflicted
the lines can burn your brain,
and soon you’re so addicted
withdrawal is in vain.
They creep up when you’re dreaming,
they strike right through the day,
and sometimes leave you screaming:
“Why won’t you go away?”
But nothing beats the craving,
as Wazza has explained,
and soon you are behaving
like Paterson unchained.
Versitis has no treatment,
it’s with you all the time…
you’ll work at what the beat meant,
and puzzle over rhyme.
So farewell other pleasures,
admit you’ve got it bad,
and dig up all those treasures
before they send you mad!

versitis That's good. But David and Heather, it's not always fun. I was mowing the lawn yesterday when an idea came to mind for a poem. I actually wrote a few lines while mowing. By the time I sat to the computer it was gone. Not just the words but the whole bleeding idea. Anyway, it wasn't a complete disaster. I used my frustration to write
It Wasn't Always Like This. Because it wasn't.

I've got a good dose of versitis too!! Does anyone have a suggestion what I can take to alleviate the pain?

Wazza.
The Australian poet Kevin Hart reckons that when you become a poet you are issued with a small notebook which you are required to carry everywhere ( yes everywhere ) so that you can note ideas on the spot and don't lose the thought.
I think it is probably handy for assuaging the side effects of the " versitis " because you collect a pile of notes which you can go through when you have more reflective time and put things together.
Maybe a digital notetaker if that works for you.

Note books and write it down how old school.
Just record it on ya phone and play it back later.
The secret to getting a good nights sleep when something is bothering you and you mind says you will not forget because you have a reminder recorded.
Always done that even when in business but more so for poems now.

Heather's right, Warren and Val, there's no escape. Never mix heavy machinery and poetry, Warren...far too dangerous!
A phone you can record on, Bob? Gadzooks! What will they think of next? Can't keep up with these new-fangled thingummyjigs!
Cheers
David
