The Knock-about Kid from Macksville
He arrived upon the cricket scene
The likes of which we’d never seen
A little rough, a little green
This knock-about kid from Macksville
He came from sturdy farming stock
Started the cricket world to rock
Put record keepers into shock
This knock-about kid from Macksville
The youngest player to score a ton
Since Dougy Walters way back when
Then he goes and scores another one
Second innings very same test
That put him in the history books
Youngest to score tons in consecutive knocks
In any test, but now it looks
Like the record goes with him to his rest
A bowler tossed a short ball down
That made him fall on hallowed ground
No rhyme or reason could be found
A tragic accident no doubt
Now a sign hangs proud on Heaven's door
Welcome Phillip. we've kept your score
The scoreboard reads forever more
Phillip Hughes: sixty three not out
In the shadows of the Members Stand
We join to celebrate this man
So cricket lovers, will you stand
Glasses raised high if you will
To toast this farm boy from the land
Pure magic with a bat in hand
Loved my all that shook his hand
The knock-about kid from Macksville
