Very lovely, Heather.

You awakened memories of my mother who passed several years ago, and whom I far too seldom think about.

To revisit the warmth and comfort that only a mother can provide would be bliss.

Great poem.

You and Bob on the same wavelength Heather? A lovely piece, beautifully crafted

A very touching poem Heather - and very cleverly written as well.

Allan I'm glad it made you think of your mother :) I hoped someone would.

Thanks Matt and Terry. :)

It's been cooking for a about a month. :) This poem isn't about anyone in particular but it did make me think about my grandmother who I was very close to - especially the bit about scent. I have a crocheted rug of hers and when I push my nose into it (as I have just done), I can still smell her 10 years on. We underestimate scent in our lives.

I debated about using face "beside" me or "to guide" me but thought "guide" definitely conjured up images of a mother or grandmother but I wanted it to be about any woman or girl that is lost - a wife, daughter, mother, grandmother etc

Maureen, I somehow doubt Bob and I are on the same wavelength! Thanks for your kind comments.

Heather :)

Goodonya Heather. I think you are right, odours have an amazing power to bring back memories, there's a word for it; "redolent ".

That's very beautiful Heather. After my father passed away, for a very long time different things seen or heard brought him back to me in memory. He was often in my dreams also. It is many years now since his passing and I do still think of him but not with anywhere near the frequency nor with the emotion. And I think this is healthy.

Scents (and odours) do bring back all sorts of memories and remind us of people, places and events.

Wazza, time does heal but we never forget and never stop loving. :) I smile when I think of my grandmother - I still feel an immense love for her and she still lives within me.

Catherine I don't think I've ever earned an "Omigosh" before. Thanks :D

Heather :)
