Bit rough but hey I'm buggered.

My apologies to Julie Andews

Gees this beer tastes good

Cheers Bob

Clean Up Australia 2011

Old bits of plastic and butts that are soggy
Cans and old bottles, white presents from doggy
Newspapers and plastic bags covered in gunk
I tell ya it’s all my least favourite junk.

Macdonald wrappers and a Kentucky container
Hungry Jack packets and an old washing drainer
Fish heads and dead prawns with maggots galore
Cleaning up after people can be such a bore.

Motor car bodies and bikes with their wheels bent
Old shopping trolleys and an old air- con fan vent
Rubbish bins, fishing line and old trawler rope
When we started we didn't think we'd have a hope.

Volunteers by the hundreds they scoured roads and highways
Cleaned up under bridges, back roads and bi-ways
Tidied our beaches, walked many a mile
Filled up each truckload and did so with a smile.

I think that's a good one Bob.

I think that what you have said in the second last stanza already covers what is said in the last stanza.
I would be tempted to make the last stanza much more biting about the necessity for such a cleanup., that's a matter of the writers choice.( that's you, not me ;)

In Singapore, people who litter will get huge fines which are rigorously applied, and graffiti artists will end up in Changi Gaol where they will get the rattan cane around their legs. Strange as it may seem, they don't have a problem with litter or graffiti in Singapore.

Thanks Nev you were right.

With one stroke of my magic pen it has gone.

Oh that the authorities here would be even a little bit strict on litter. What was cleaned up was a disgrace even allowing for the fact that the floods accounted for a bit of it

Excellent Bob  I tried singing it (no one in ear shot fortunately) but lost the plot. With a spit and polish it will be bonza!

Thank you Bob for helping - we had a massive clean up but still a lot of mess in our rivers etc

After the floods here all our stuff has floated
down creeks and rivers on flood waters bloated,
littering river banks was not our plan
but now its cleaned up by our fellow man.

Rubbish bins, old chairs, oil bottles, stuffed foxes.
Clothing and dead cows and iron rooves and boxes.
Great massive pontoons complete with large boats
the floodwaters stole anything that would float.

Restaurants with tables, umbrellas and chairs
all headed seaward with nary a care.
Smashing ‘gainst bridges with impunity -
flood flotsam and jetsam all headed to sea.

As the rain falls and the dams pour
litres out for free
We simply remember our favourite things
and sit and wonder – why me? :?

Thank you Neville. the poem made the local paper today and i think with the extra verse it might have been a bit big to publish.

Always good to get the word out there

cheers and thanks again Bob
