I'm Goin' Back

Post by r.magnay » Fri May 08, 2015 8:37 pm

Heading back to the old country next week.

I’M GOIN’ BACK.

© Ross Magnay 8/5/15

I’m heading back to the desert soon, to the desert oak and the blood red dune,
To the place where Lasseter met his fate, where the blackfellas found him just too late,
To a place where the plains roll up the hill and the golden reef is hidden still.
A place where majestic wedgetail fly and the creeks and rivers lay there dry,

I’m going back to the land I know, where the spinifex and the mulga grow,
The hills and plains combine with sky, and desert oak and breezes sigh.
I’ll breathe the warmth of the outback sun and see the sand goanna run,
Though it all sounds good you well may smirk, I’M GOING BACK TO BLOODY WORK!

Me thinks you doth complain too loud! ;)

I suspect the air, the she-oaks and breezes have been missed. Try not to work too hard Ross.

Thanks Matt, always glad to see your name appear after I post.

It was meant to be Heather, with my fat fingers and poor typing skills I managed to hit the 'caps lock' button without knowing, because I look at the keyboard rather than the screen I had finished the line before I noticed it!...I thought about changing it but decide not to.. ;)

You're right Bob, although I would be happy not to have to go up there to work, I secretly still love it!

G/day Ross, you forgot to mention the freezing nights and early mornings - and of course there's always the flies mate.

I don't know how things are in that neck of the woods, but they tell me that the flies are really bad this year over here because of the rains we've had, and there's still a lot of water laying around in places after the last cyclone.

That aside I enjoyed your poem as I always do - looking forward to heading out and hopefully doing a bit of swinging myself in the near future.

Prospectors term for using a metal detector Heather - Haven't been a swinger in the other sense for a long time now if ever.

Cheers Terry

I was thinking that swinging from trees might hurt your back.... or your arms......or your neck :)
