ON SUCH WINTER MORNINGS
ON SUCH WINTER MORNINGS
The first rays of sunshine spawn bright fairy lights
that sprinkle their way through the trees
and shimmer and dance in a playful delight
on such winter mornings as these.
The world is awash with a white marzipan.
embroidered in red green and gold.
The discarded oak leaves of amber and tan
lay crumpled or curled in a fold.
The crackle of new winter frost on the ground -
a snare drum that maintains a beat.
The steam of my breath fills the air all around,
a pulse that keeps time with my feet.
Wrapped tight in a trench coat, accessorised scarf
and warm woollen mitts on my hand
I smile as the children at play start to laugh,
a winter joy sweeps o'er the land.
The intoxication of coffee's fresh brew
comes wafting along on the breeze
It's calling me home to a place set for two
on such winter mornings as these.

Thanks Sue, Heather and Wazza
I enjoy the sunshine, but romance belongs to the winter

Here's the spot where Bob steps in and reminds you about romantic walks (hand in hand of course) along the (unquestionably Queensland) beach.
