Boxing Day
BOXING DAY.
( can be sung to the tune of Lennon/McCartney " Yesterday " )
Boxing Day;
That's when Santa is so far away,
How I wish that he would stay that way,
Oh, I can't wait for Boxing Day.
Suddenly;
All the shops have ditched that Yuletide glee,
There's no little drummer, drumming me,
Yes, Boxing Day comes suddenly.
Why we had to buy, who knows why
but that's the way,
They all think I'm wrong, when I long
for Boxing Day.
Yesterday;
Shopping madness was the game to play.
Is there nowhere I can hide away,
Oh, I can't wait for Boxing Day.
Why we had to buy, who knows why,
but that's the way.
They all think I'm wrong when I long
for Boxing Day.
Yesterday,
Overeating was the game to play.
But I've found a place to hide away,
Oh, I'll come out on Boxing Day.

Boxing Day
Why did I have to be born on that day?
All my friends each year had gone away
I got all my gifts
On Christmas Day

Thanks Wazza, a bit of a reality check.
Thanks Allan. Oh well, like our relatives, we can't choose our birthday

Re: Boxing Day
Scrooge was a metaphor by Dickens to comment on British social issues, a bit like Henry Lawson's Faces in the Street.
I reflect with some bemusement on what people might think if they realised how the cute baby in the manger was not so cute when in later life he took a whip to those who had turned a sacred thing into a commercial enterprise, " a den of thieves " he called them.
What a disgrace that Christianity has become one of the biggest commercial enterprises around ( and not only at Christmas time ). Hence I've a different motive from Dickens' character, I don't want to encourage the thieves, I'm wary of the whip.
