MAN OF LETTERS
There are phrases now used in most common day speak
that were once never known to the tongue.
There are groupings of words that now ring to the ear,
where once ne'er a carillon rung.
There are many have written and coined the odd phrase
but no one has since written better,
the words of the playwright, the words of the bard,
the words of the great man of letters.
Between star-crossed lovers, and loves that are lost
born phrases and words to behold.
The struggle of mind within poor tortured souls
brings forth words so the tale may be told.
There are many have written, but found that their words
are not served up as if upon platters,
as the words of the playwright, the words of the bard,
the words of the great man of letters.
The musings of merchants, the speeches of kings,
the word of the princes and fools,
are sculptured and nurtured and breathed into life,
for such are Shakespearean tools.
So savour the rhythm and ingest the rhymes
as the great man, your senses he flatters
with the words of a playwright, the words of the bard,
the words of the great man of letters.
