ONLY ONE EARTH

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:32 am

It continues - the pebble in the pond effect IMO- read this morning of an earthquake in Burma.

ONLY ONE EARTH

It’s a crazy world right now – you see fear in many places
right across the globe, in different countries, lots of faces
wear a frown, a tear, expressions of distress and consternation
all concerned and feeling fearful for the changes to their nation.

There are rumblings beneath the earth, she vents her angry spleen
in massive lava dummy spits and plumes of hissing steam.
She showers earth with ash and rocks, fast falling from the sky
tossing them with impunity so many metres high.

She rips her garments end to end - a visual display
of her grief, hurt and power – was it us made her this way?
Has our constant pilfering of gifts she once offered so freely
caused the Mother so much distress that she now makes us pay dearly?

She sends huge walls of water racing to our nation’s shores
to remove all traces of man encroaching on her doors.
She cares not for the edifices we’ve put in her way
she annihilates them, crushes them in her angry display.

Great winds she sends across the land, with rain and wind and thunder,
and once again from us she tears our homes – her forces plunder
each inch of land and every crop, and human victims fall
she screams her ire at those below, mere pawns that she will maul.

It’s a crazy world right now and it seems men don’t have the answers
The whole world waits with bated breath for the next great disaster.
Will a prayer help? Who knows – it might. Too little and too late.
Is there anything that we can do? We should not hesitate.

Some say it’s the world’s cycle – these things have happened before.
And no doubt they have, the world’s existed for eons for sure.
The Mothers always seen her right – she looks to her housekeeping
unlike men - the arrogant - who think not of her safekeeping.

Life is full of balances, the oceans touch each shore.
The same winds travel round the world to nations rich and poor.
The one sun services the world, it shares it’s warmth with all
and waters nurture natures plants as from one sky it falls.

With bounty such as this why would we be so indiscreet
as to detonate, pollute, poison, the earth beneath our feet?
And yet we have. We’ve tried to change the Earth and her direction
I suspect we’ve not passed muster – perhaps failed the last inspection.

And perhaps the earth is saying – that this time enough’s enough
you have used me not so gently, your platitudes I rebuff.
There were civilizations long before you, once upon this earth.
They are gone. They also lacked appreciation of my worth.

Starting to think that something major is happening around the ridges - the weather patterns world wide have gone mad and I dread to think of the insurance premiums that we in Australia are going to be facing after this lot of water departs.

Ipswich had over 6 inches of rain last night - the rain gauge was overflowing this morning so don't know how much more came down, but there is another inch in it today and it is still falling. The Bremer is on the rise, the Wivenhoe is letting water out and this scenario is repeated around the country - with a Cyclone brewing off the WA coastline (stay safe over there Mates) I've just spent another hour sweeping 2 inches of water out from under the house. About the 6th time in two days. Elly thinks this a game I have devised for her as she chases the dirty water across the concrete.

Nothing to whinge about when other people are getting flooded out big time - yet again, but annoying all the same.

Next time I move it will be to the top of the hill and a bloody long way from the river. Dorothea Mackellar put it so nicely - you either have to love it or hate it don't you

Very passionate Maureen. I'm not sure Lord Monckton would take notice of your passionate poetry. ;) :)

You had 6 inches overnight - we've had 59mm for the month (avg 350mm). Waiting for the Madden Julian Oscillation to kick in.
