Last Week's Rain

Post by Stephen Whiteside » Fri May 27, 2016 9:24 pm

Perhaps there are a few scientists out there who can suggest that I am vaguely on the right track with the last line of this poem…

Last Week’s Rain

The rain began on Monday. It was spitting – not much more,
Yet still I felt relief to come inside and close the door.
On Tuesday it was heavier – you couldn’t stay outside.
You had to find some sheltered spot to snuggle in, and hide.
By Wednesday it was bucketing – it pelted cats and dogs.
The drains were overflowing, and the rivers carried logs.
Thursday was ridiculous, with water in the sky.
We’d lived so long with wetness now that not a thing was dry.
Friday was the day it all began to feel quite creepy.
Even solid lumps of rock turned soft and very seepy.
Saturday it started, as the countries started melting,
And all the former way of things was dealt a dreadful belting.
By Sunday it was finished – rock and sea had turned to one,
And Earth stretched like a sausage as it spun around the Sun.

Oh do go on Stephen, it wasn't that bad! My dams are almost empty - we need a lot more! Funny poem but.

I'm still bowled away by the vision of earth as a stretched sausage!!!

Heather, Stephen has a poetic license, as he is old enough to use hyperbole.

Interesting how we all react to rain Stephen.

Rather diversified comments from who and where we are, what we do etc.

Enjoyed the read.
