Will They Ever Learn

Will They Ever Learn

To be a politician well ya hide it must be thick
well able to stand forces that might hit ya like a brick.
You learn just who your mates are in case things start to crack
but when you least expect it one will knife you in the back.

The party must come first they say to be a solid team
And we need a good majority to realise our dream.
We’re here for all Australians like Malcolm was and Gough
but when push come down to shove we want our noses in the trough.

They play their games and jossle for positions on the line
Stand in the background nodding cause our leaders doing fine..
Gain them selves a pension that leaves you and me for dead
they’re in it for Australia well that’s what the buggers said.

They expound the joys of mateship that good old Aussie trait
and that’s the way it will be while things are going great.
But when the poles start sliding and I tell you it’d a sin
when the backbenchers get nervous you will end up in the bin.

Then they pick another leader ? and I say that with a grin
Cause they have not learned their lesson and I think it is a sin.
One we did not vote for but we will have our say
Cause the people always win out on the next election day.

Thanks Bob. I enjoyed reading that. Not sure though that our choice in the coming election will make much difference in the end.

If we could find someway of getting their snouts out of the trough it would be ok Wazza.

The total money we pay to pollies ex pollies ect must be staggering.

I'm a single man with very few benefits. always worked and paid taxes but retirement looks a long way off.

Hey, Bob.

You know I agree with most of the sentiments and observations in this poem, except for the last line. It matters little who wins an election, the people are rarely the winners. Whatever promises are made to get elected, they are usually broken within a short time, blaming the mess left by the previous government, or unforseen outside global influences, or whatever.

The one commonality is that they all have their head in the trough, regardless of how noble or philanthropic they choose to paint themselves.

Oh the win out phrase was with regards to chucking the buggers out if they do not do the right thing Allan.

Politicians and their antics seem to form a staple in bush poetry. It's a staple I grow myself.

It's a shame that we didn't see this poem in the paper, along with all the pre-election hype. Do you think there would be a spot for it if you sent it in?

Oh the local pollies are a thin skinned bunch Bob and don't take to people poking fun at them  It will be an interesting election to day, to see who emerges from the maelstrom - its been said we get what we deserve but lets just say partial as I am to a bloke in Jeans wearing an Akubra with a bit of dirt on his hands that Bob Katter's party factored in my list
