The Hereafter

Most of us grow old gracefully
like a mature and great old wine.
Yes we get better and more mellow
like that fruit from off the vine.
But I found as I got older
I made more friends most every day
but my memory just got so bad
I forgot a lot along the way.
Then I met some folk, I really like
oh I don't know where to start
cause Uncle Toby comes for breakfast
and warms the cockles of my heart.
Next I'd sit down with the paper
and spend some time with Billy Tea
a nice cuppa in the morning
and all the local news to see.
Then I got a hand from Mr Sheen
to make the whole house shine
and Handy Andy helped me out
we cleaned up really fine.
When Arthur Ititus came to visit
he would stay with me all day.
He took me round from joint to joint
and even came to church to pray.
In the evenings when I got lonely
Johnny Walker rocks me off to sleep.
After he's hung round for just a while
I'd doze off with out a peep.
But now I tire now so easily
I seem to sleep a lot each day
and a fella they call Al Simer
has moved in with me to stay.
He follows me most everywhere
he just won't go away
and I found the strangest thing of late
though I find it hard to say.
The doctor said that at my age
I should prepare for what's in store
I should think more of the Hereafter
but I wonder each day more and more.
Cause I always do it now you know
and no matter where I be
I practice for when that final day
as he can plainly see.
For where ever in the house I wander
I some times burst out into laughter
cause I always have to ask myself
what did I come "Here After".
