Si vis pacem, para bellum … Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet
The end of the day and the world stands in silence.
The end of an era with peace all but gone,
the end of a life taken too soon and quickly,
the end of complacency - Armageddon.
The red white and blue of a country in mourning
has spread ‘cross the world like an incoming tide
If you listen carefully you’ll hear the mourning
of Syria, Baghdad and others beside.
The years of my life are now slowly declining
I reach for the sky along with thousands more
and pray to a God of my own – of my choosing
imploring for mercy an end to this war.
But sadly I fear that the path we have taken
with all of its twists and turns led us astray
the edifices built by hand by old craftsman
have fallen, and seems they all had feet of clay.
We’ve lost our compassion, we’ve lied and we’ve cheated
lost our humanity somewhere on the way,
so come, take my hand, find a moment of peace and
lets join with all nations … for sanity pray.
