Bourke Poets Trek September 27-28

Post by Bourke Poets Trek » Fri Aug 23, 2013 11:37 am

Hi folks,

I'd just thought I'd let you all know that we are running the Poets Trek again this September 27-28 in Bourke.

Every year we take a busload of bush poetry and history enthusiasts along the tracks walked by Henry Lawson, and through the pubs and mulga paddocks frequented by Will Ogilvie and Harry 'The Breaker" Morant.

The two-day bus or tag-a-long tour leaves Bourke on Friday, September 27 and heads to Hungerford, via Fords Bridge, old "Keribree", Lake Eliza, and "Brindingabba" on the Cuttaburra.
There is a night of poetry and songs around the fire outside the Royal Mail Hotel and in the morning we head back east to Barringun via "Comeroo", "Sharoon" and "Belalie".
Back in Bourke the poetry continues with a performance night, which this year will be held at the Port of Bourke Hotel.

Manfred was our guest last year and I'm sure will jump in to say what a unique experience the Trek is and a great way to explore the country that inspired some of our greatest poets.

Andrew Hull and other local poets are regulars on the trek, while Paul Roe shares his extensive knowledge of the districts history.

You can find more details on our website http://www.poetstrek.com.au or find us on facebook for regular updates http://www.facebook.com/poetstrek

Feel free to ask any questions here or contact us on facebook or by email: poets trek@gmail.com

We'd love to have you along!

Jono.

Thats great Peter - will look forward to meeting you...
There is a full program - we are actually going to start to call the week the 'Festival of a Thousand Stories' - (quote comes from a local poet, Wilkie Davis who said 'Bourke is the land that launched a thousand stories'

We will be having 'Rain in The Mountains' on Wednesday evening - Henry Lawson poems interpreted as songs by Christine Wheeler and her band - should be great ! - Thursday is a trip out to Toorale and Thursday evening is at our regular event 'Poetry on a Plate' - www.poetryonaplate.com.au
Friday we are off treking with poems and yarns at Hungerford Pub Friday night, returning Saturday for 'Poetry at the Pub' at the Port of Bourke Hotel - there will also be 'life story' writing workshops on Wednesday and Thursday....

Should provide enough of a 'poetry fix' for everyone ! !
