Re: A question regarding competition entries
My bit,
One year I had a poem included in an anthology (published) and rang the next comp (I had already entered the same poem in) to advise them. They said they would still include the poem because I had entered it before the other com was judged and the book had not yet hit the shelves. Then another year I rang the 'Blackened Billy' comp and withdrew a poem and still I received not one but two 'Highly Commended' awards.
Ah the good old days when I was writing decent stuff. I must apply myself and try harder.

Re: A question regarding competition entries
A little bit more on my original question.
A case of different strokes?
Dear Bev,
My entry into the Byron Bay Writer's Festival Poetry Competition, The One That Got Away, was a weekly winner in the ABC Far North Bush Poetry Competition in 2012. This did not make it a winner, it simply put it into the finals where it went no further. However, it was read on air along with all other poems for that week. I was recently informed that this may have made it ineligible for other competitions such as yours. Please make up your mind about its eligibility, let me know and I will be happy with whatever you decide.
No problem Warren. Thanks for letting me know.
Regards
Bev

I wish to enter a couple of poems into your 2013 competition. The poems were entered into separate competitions last year. Neither poem was placed, but one received a highly commended and another was voted a weekly listener's favourite in a ten week radio promotion.
Good Morning Warren,
Thank you for your interest in our competition.
In answer to your query, your poem that received the Highly Commended is eligible for our Comp as it did not win or have a place, as you mentioned.
However, the other one has been "published" - reading over the air is published.

Two different rulings so I guess the smart thing to do is always ask. …. Wazza
