Good poem and true, now we just need to have our new incomers appreciate what we have here and not try to change it into the country and regime they are escaping from.

TTFN Dave.

G'day Manfred,

Oh Captain, my Captain. I can't remember which movie this was from but it seems appropriate.

You guide our ship and I am pleased to know that, on a clear night, you see the path ahead, and behind, as I do.
Guide us well, oh Captain.

Well expressed. I found this a poem to be read and reread, and savoured. Thank you for sharing.

Zondrae, what very kind words to say. Thank you.

Thanks for your comments Dave, Sue.
Was reading recently that we're (Oz) the happiest Country in the OECD.
I have no problem with that survey whatsoever ... :D

Thanks for that Manfred. We need to preserve and keep our uniqueness.

If ever you are feeling down just remember that we are living in the best country in the world ..

It's poems from the heart that express this best THANKS MATE !!!!

The movie, Zondrae is " Dead Poet's Society " ... " Captain my Captain " is a line from a poem written by Walt Whitman ,that Robin Williams, ( as the English teacher, Mr Keating would you believe  ) teaches his class. When Mr Keating gets the sack for being a bad influence, the boys stand on their desks and repeat that line as a farewell gesture. Wonderful movie.

Great sentiments Manfred. The thing that rankles is that we have so-called civic leaders in this country who are falling over themselves to join the ranks of the self-loathers.
Bashing ourselves up because we are ALL supposedly racist , environmentally rapacious , insensitive to superior cultures ( that means anything but ours ) and adherents of that loathsome poison known as Western Judeo/Christian Democratic Capitalism.
It would be nice to think that presenting bush poems of your sort might counter such anti-wisdom. Maybe..... it's a long shot I fear.

Thanks for your comments Bob, Nev ... just because we don't stand on a box and beat our chests while wrapping ourselves in a flag of self-rightiousness, outside cultures perceive a vacuum here which they eagerly attempt to fill.

I was stirred to anger recently over the traffic police incident when a face covered outlaw refused to be identified. Subsequently the case was thrown out of court because the judge said (rightly so) that he/she could not be certain that the person appearing was the person charged.

Motorbike helmets must be removed before entering banks (and some shops too I believe). A law banning "hoodies" is currently going through the processes for assent.

Given that the Grand Mufti here in Oz has said on a number of occasions that the berka is NOT a requirement but an OPTION in the practice of that Faith, I feel like calling every 'hooded' hypocrite a "Cultural Racist" (to their [hooded] face)!!

I read this yesterday and tried to reply but my machine was playing up so I lost the reply, since then most of what I was to say has been said, but I will still say.."a bloody bewdy mate!" I just wish people of ALL colours, creeds and origions that choose to be in or are born in this great country would just get on with being AUSTRALIAN!...one and all and be thankful for it!

Thanks Ross ... There's nothing wrong with embracing their new Land ... Many, many have done so previously ... Remember the Vietnamese "boat people"? Yes, a new start is exactly that, a new start!!
