COURAGE

Maureen Clifford © 09/11

From the grandeur of the Grampians to the Strzelecki track
from the Uluru to the Olgas and in our great Outback
there are folks as strong as Ironbark, Ridgey- didge and real true blue
who should bear the name of courage- Australians through and through.

They have weathered many hardships – far more than is their share
and the thing that seems to get them through is knowing that folks care.
They’ve been flooded, burnt out, blown away. Many have lost their all
but they seem to find an inner strength – each one still standing tall.

When you see your home and land and stock engulfed by flood or fire,
or you stand and watch dreams blown away by Tropical cyclones ire.
When loved ones are lost and can’t be found though endlessly you’ve searched
or if drugs have stolen life away – will you find peace in church?

Or must you draw on inner strength that Aussie fighting spirit
that says you will get up again, you’ll beat it, then you’ll win it.
It’s the spirit of the Anzacs though the fight is over here
and it seems most Aussies have it – and the reasoning is clear.

We’re a land of many cultures and a land of many breeds
our people come from many lands – for so great was their need
for peace, a better life, protection our country heard their voice,
welcomed their strengths and bid them bide. Australians by choice.

From the grandeur of the Grampians to the Strzelecki track
in the outback and the cities, on the coast and way out back
there are folks as strong as Ironbark- Ridgey didge and true blue
and each one has inner fortitude - Australians through and through.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

The purpose in life is to have fun.
After you grasp that everything else seems insignificant !!!
