SHE
Inspired by a painting done by my great great Uncle
SHE
She used beauty to tantalize
and stole my soul with smoky eyes,
I heard her words, believed her lies;
watched, seeing her soft breasts rise
and fall in time with beating heart
that dwelt deep in that inner part
where truth was true and lies just lies,
her pulse negated alibis.
Through hot and steamy northern nights
she kissed my lips and held me tight.
She promised she would never leave
and all her lies I did believe.
She promised me the moon and stars
and silver beaches stretching far.
She promised me all this and more,
for her I’d die – I have before.

Re: SHE
Love the poem Maureen, Very good. I think short and succint verses are perfect for the theme of the painting.
It's a wonderful portrait. The loose brushwork in the hair and blouse gives it a great lively look.
One thing, sorry Maureen me again acting up again
.." alibi" is a legal term meaning "elsewhere", I wage a losing battle to persuade wordsmiths that alibi does not mean "excuse", but I think that the colloquial usage will defeat me.

Bob - toughen up.
Thank you Heather glad you liked it.
Thanks Neville for the comment re use of alibi - I didn't know that - perhaps you have inside knowledge
Glad you found the painting pleasing, it is lovely. I think he was very talented and I am very proud of the connection. Just wish I had been able to meet him. Maybe in another life perhaps??
Christmas blessings to you all

Re: SHE
Thanks Stephen happy you liked it - I am a believer in past lives and so found it perfectly feasible that a man in a previous time may well have fought and died to protect this maid and now has reconnected with his lost love and remembers.
