When Jupiter align with Mars
It was a night without moonlight and outside was dark,
Jupiter rising - a dim orange spark
beside spiralling nebulae birthplace of stars.
On the table uneaten - Milky Way and Mars bars.
The night air was hot with no breezy relief.
No hiding in blankets – that would lead to grief.
For hot hands and fingers would just melt away
the chocolate, thus leaving the Mars in dissaray.
Watching the wind die away to a sigh
he dreamed daytime dreams, chewing gum on the sly.
Fragrant scent of nutmeg drifted from the kitchen,
where his Mum baked biscuits, whilst about heat bitchin’.
And wandering by wearing woollies of cream
were the Merino rams – a formidable team
with huge curly horns, spiralled, convoluted.
Their weapon of choice when things were disputed.
He thought he might wait – watch for a falling star
and eat while he did that enticing Mars Bar,
but alas when he entered the kitchen to get it
not a trace remained – now he really felt wretched.
His Mum offered him a new biscuit she’d made
A chocolate delight which she thought made the grade.
It contained both the Mars Bar and the Milky Way.
He shook his head sadly and wandered away.
