I'll bet Stephen that you are a great fan of Ford Prefect and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe.
In The Great String Robbery ( The Goons ) Harry Secombe is shown two pieces of string lying apart and is told by Peter Sellers that a thief has cut a piece out of the middle and taken it. Harry then puts the two pieces together and explains that when you put the two pieces together, the outside ends get shorter. He concludes that the thief has cut off two pieces from either end, cut the middle and moved the pieces apart, giving the impression that one piece from the middle has been stolen when in fact he has stolen two outside pieces of string.

Spike Milligan was a genius at these hilarious logical illogicals.
