One upon a time.....in the land of Oz

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:34 am

This is a true story. :o I know hard to believe isn't it   :?

ONCE UPON A TIME…………………………IN THE LAND OF OZ

She made him buy new teeth because his girl was getting wed
and a toast from him expected at the fling.
She’d hoped that the insertion of some plastic in his head
would help him to enunciate, free of hissing.

She bought suit, shirt and tie for him as well whilst in the city,
it was important on the day that things be right.
He reckoned that his RM jeans would do him on the day
and said the collar on the shirt was far to tight.

He said the tie was like a hangman’s noose around his neck
It was a service she’d be happy to provide…………….
He claimed the new shoes pinched, he’d not be wearing them by heck.
He would polish up his RM’s leather hide.

He never wore the teeth but once, managed to lose the suit,
said the tie was just as useless as could be;
though did concede that it could double up as a fan belt
possibly useful in a dire emergency .

He kept the teeth beside the bed in a jam jar of water,
but when cooking you might spot them on the sink.
Useful when crimping pastry. Gave a nicely fluted edge,
and the neighbours wondered why she turned to drink.

She sits and grins now to herself and writes the story down
hopeful others see the pictures words inspire.
He lives. He’s out there somewhere with another bird in tow
trying to extricate herself from country mire.

But blokes like him are wonderful – a true blue Aussie bloke
as quirky as a can full of mung beans.
You cannot help but love them, but sometimes leave them you must
for their lifestyle’s somewhat different from your dreams.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

G'day Maureen,

You do have a way with words. I wonder if you will ever run out of material? You have inspired me to look more closely inward and see what I can come up with to write about. Perhaps another long walk with recorder in hand might do the trick.

As long as my perverted sense of humour hangs in there Zondrae and my brain still functions - shortage of words will not be a problem that will be worrying me.
