Valentines Day Reading.

Post by Rimeriter » Fri Feb 10, 2012 1:16 pm

"G'day Sue",
Just to confirm my earlier committment, that which follows is my prepared screed for 2012 -

"G'day", I've been invited here today, in anticipation I can add some Aussie flavour to this Australian Valentines Day.
Invariably, as an introduction, I enjoy presenting a 'love story' about my country of birth - this Bloody Country, followed by a description - My Australia.

Both these poems, whilst brief, have become my introduction and signature pieces.

Then I would in the past have read a marvellous poem - Women of the West, written by George Essex Evans.
However this year, having recently read - The Lonely Widow, written by Sue Pearce and enjoyed it immensley, I will present it for you today.
Sue is a member of the Australian Bush Poets Association.

--- this bloody country.

I
love this
bloody country.
I’ve
got ‘er
in me veins.
Her trials
‘er tribulations.
Her sorrows,
aches,
‘er pains.
**

MY Australia.

Australia.
My Land,
one nation and free,
an island of beauty
encircled by sea.
Great mountain ranges
deserts of gold,
mysterious secrets
yet to be told.
Plains so extensive
rivers and gorges
beauty and splendour
a canvas it forges.
Snowcapped escarpments
waterfall spun
crystals of brilliance
vibrate in the sun.
Birds in spectrums
of colour and light,
myriads of rainbows
banking in flight.
My land, Australia,
much more to behold
an artistic canvas
with yet more to unfold.

Should anyone require copies of any or all these poems, some are available today.
