The Countdown's On...

Stephen Whiteside 01.03.2012

The countdown's on. It won't be long
Till snow starts falling, clean and strong;
Snow starts falling, soft and white,
A sheer and absolute delight.
My soul takes flight.

See the snow gums hanging low,
Branches weighed with tons of snow,
Bending, straining underneath
A powder mantle, white as teeth,
An icy wreath.

Note the early morning tracks
Of foxes on the prowl for snacks;
Looking out for possums, mice,
A wounded bird to add some spice
To snow and ice.

I'll be moving on my skis
In minus three or four degrees;
Planning far and wide to roam
Down sheltered gale, up rounded dome,
With lunch from home.

Enjoyed the scene very much Stephen. It feels a little unfinished though. I want to know what happened next.... :)

You're always so kind, Heather. I can always count on you for a positive comment! OK, I'll give it some thought.

I like the poem Stephen. Very enjoyable. :)

As for tramping around in a mega fridge freezer, count me out, very unenjoyable. :roll:

Thanks, Marty. Very interesting to hear about your father.

Neville, just throw on another jumper...and a balaclava and a neck warmer and some mittens and perhaps another jumper and a waterproof jacket and some thermal underwear and maybe some overpants and some thick woollen socks and a good solid waterproof pair of boots and you should be OK.

A great 'capture' Stephen (made my juices flow). :D
I loved X-Country skiing - and I miss it.
Most memorable trip was from Guthega Ponds to Kiandra over Mt Jujungal. Snow caves all the way.
These pics are from Cope Hut on two trips from Mt Hotham to Mt Beauty, one in May and the other a year later in August.

Loved this Stephen - makes me green with envy!! :D
You have captured a beautiful scene that makes one want to be there (except for Neville, of course!! ;) :lol: )
Have only been over in the snow once - when my firstborn as about 14mths old. It was great, but didn't get to try cross country skiing - was hard enough learning ordinary skiing!!
We used to water ski, and snow skiing is all a*&%! about to that!
