If I read some Robert Frost to-day, I will be sure that he is my favourite poet, if I read some Les Murray to-morrow, I will be certain that he is my favourite poet, if I then go and read some Henry Lawson then I will be convinced that he is my favourite poet, when I read Elizabeth Bishop's ONE ART, I know she is my favourite poet and next week when I read John Whitworth's latest poem, I will rejoice in finding my favourite poet.

Actually Neville Briggs must be my favourite poet, I look after him, groom him, feed him, read his stuff everyday, laugh at all his jokes and sympathise with all his tragedies, and fully understand where is coming from in all his most obscure verse. . I have copies of all his works carefully filed away in a display book. .......

I'm with you Neville. To me the question is like asking who my favourite musical artist is or my favourite piece of music. It would depend on the day and the mood and I don't have an definite answer.

I am sure I posted on this topic ... but it isn't there.

Ah well, back to the drawing board as they say. Because I really haven't studied either of these two poets in depth, though I do know their more popular works, I couldn't express a choice. However, when asked who my favourite Australian poet is I answer 'CJ Dennis'. I have several of his works in illustrated form and, because of the 'readability' have enjoyed them. While I have many books of the collected works of both Paterson and Lawson they look, because of their prolific nature, like a heavy task to undertake. Maybe I should just choose one book and stick with it, it in little steps, until it is finished (and so on). I'll get back to you.....
