little satnav
little satnav
dont know who wrote it but enjoy it Neil
I have a little Satnav
I have a little Satnav
It sits there in my car
A Satnav is a driver's friend
It tells you where you are
I have a little Satnav
I've had it all my life
It’s better than the normal ones
My Satnav is my wife
It gives me full instructions
Especially how to drive
"It's thirty miles an hour", it says
"You're doing thirty five"
It tells me when to stop and start
And when to use the brake
And tells me that it's never ever
Safe to overtake
It tells me when a light is red
And when it goes to green
It seems to know instinctively
Just when to intervene
It lists the vehicles just in front
And all those to the rear
And taking this into account
It specifies my gear.
I'm sure no other driver
Has so helpful a device
For when we leave and lock the car
It still gives its advice
It fills me up with counselling
Each journey's pretty fraught
So why don't I exchange it
And get a quieter sort?
Ah well, you see, it cleans the house,
Makes sure I'm properly fed,
It washes all my shirts and things
And - keeps me warm in bed!
Despite all these advantages
And my tendency to scoff,
I do wish that once in a while
I could turn the damned thing off.

Then perhaps try finding out before publishing their work on line, Bill.

Please show where I quoted that Bill. If you wish to attack me personally then have the guts to phone me instead of making up things here and hiding behind emoticons.

It's interesting, I searched on the 'net for the author of this piece to no avail. What did show up was how viral a piece this this can go, and quickly authorship can be lost.
I make a habit of putting my name directly under the title (NOT at the end of the piece) for that reason. Not sure how effective that is but I'm sure authorship has a greater chance of 'sticking' from under the title.

I also looked it up Manfred. Whoever wrote that piece has had their work well and truly hijacked.

I think most of us recall Bill Kearns's poem 'Entrapment' being given much the same disrespect on the internet. Credited to other authors, played without permission on the radio, and in that case, pretty clearly marked as Bill's for those who bothered Googling. It is just something we, as poets, need to discourage, especially on our own sites.

Re: little satnav
My personal protest when receiving a piece of anonymous work when I know the authors name - is to attach the Authors name to it and then add a note to the effect that the work was written by ??? and is not anonymous at all. That a great deal of thought and time went in to producing it and if forwarding it on to mates please ensure that this note is attached to it.
I then with great glee send it back from whence it came and if the sender was silly enough to leave all the email addresses on his email to me then I send it to those people as well - usually with a fairly cryptic note to the sender thanking them for supplying me with a godzillion email addresses to which I could if desired send oodles of spam mail. People need to get into the habit of erasing email addresses before forwarding work around and get into the habit of using the BC box as in blind copy when sending emails out. That way their email address will not be floating around the airwaves for every Tom. Dick and Harry and Viagra seller to see.
Probably doesn't solve a thing but makes me feel a hell of a lot better
