It's that time of year again!


Nose Blockage Blues

It isn't a fever. We don't have much hay,
And yet I can tell by the tone of the day
With a wind from the north that is gusty and hot
By nightfall my eyes will be bloody and shot.
My throat will be itchy. My nose will be red;
Composure and comfort, they both will have fled.
My pockets will fill with used hankies galore,
And tissues, in fragments, will spill on the floor.
I'll swallow the tablets. I'll try all the sprays,
But I'll still stagger 'round in a stupified daze;
Drops for my eye-balls and cream for my skin
And more sprays to try to allow some air in
To my stiff, soggy lungs that are setting like glue.
What, beyond this, do you think I can do?

Ah, here's a thought! Perhaps if I puff
And I huff and I puff and I blow hard enough
To the north, from the south, I can blow it all back
(Before I develop an asthma attack);
Blow all the pollen to back where it came,
Then it can lower its head in deep shame -
Shame for the suffering that it has wrought,
Shame for the blockages that it has brought.

I, all alone, might not get the job done,
Besides, as a team, it would be much more fun,
So, all of you hayfever victims out there,
Let's work together to move enough air
To render our atmosphere pristine and pure,
And make our environment once more secure.
Take a deep breath now, and listen to me:
Get ready to blow REALLY HARD...One! Two! Threeeee...!

Wouldn't you be better using a big set of bellows, Stephen? I would have thought all that huffing and puffing might exacerbate the problem.
