...well I agree with Heather and Glenny....I met Gough at the tent embassy in front of parliment house in the seventies....and I was drinking age then!.....

Marty I don't believe I gave you my opinion of Gough - in fact I'm sure I didn't. What I said was that he spoke in a pompous manner. It is an observation, not a commentary on the politics, or of him as politician, or of the events of 11th November.

I thought you would remember Glenny, you would have been ish at the time. The Governor-General Sir John Kerr was mercilessly hounded and resigned two years after Whitlam dismissal. He was so hated and harassed that he left Australia and lived in London. He died in 1991 and his family announced his death after he had been buried to avoid the offer of a state funeral..


An interesting little bit of trivia about John Kerr is that he was worked at the section at Victoria Barracks where two of the officers Harold Stewart and James McAuley concocted Australia's most famous poetry fraud, known as The Ern Malley affair.

Ern Malley, it's a long story Glenny. I'll send you a message., I've posted the Ern Malley Affair before. I thought you would have known that one. Or if you wish it is easily found on Google.
I used the wrong word, it was more a hoax than a fraud, they never intended to profit from it.
