Re: The Ozzy Alfabett
Ppplleeeeeese! Gan I go back to school.
I used to get the cain for spelling like this! AND be made write 100 times the words I spelled incorrectly. (to think I was wasting trees even then) I remember one day having to stand up in class and spell a simple word.. 'does' now the amount of scarring is obvious from the fact that I remember it in detail.
This was like a weekly spelling bee and I rarely got through the first round.
I was about 11 at the time and had to spell aloud, the word 'does'.
"D O S E " I declared.
'Incorrect, try again.'
I thought for a minute.. "D o s e" I recall thinking 'how else could you spell it?'
The class were all laughing. I was red in the face.
Then I was told to sit down. Without any other information. I couldn't look it up on the weekly spelling list as we had to hand our books in before the 'test' began.
To my 11 year old brain DOES was the plural of Doe. So 'dose' must be the word asked for. In the fluster of the minute I didn't associate a 'dose' of medicine.
Oh the things that were once done to children!
I thank heavens that most teachers are more enlightened these days.
