FINNIGAN

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Sat Feb 02, 2013 9:55 am

I wrote this for a girlfriend who has recently acquired a new housemate - a gentleman with Maltese connections

FINNIGAN

I am Finnigan McNulty - I’m a dashing little lad.
Everyone tells Mum I’m sweet, but sometimes I am bad.
I like to chew up balls and shoes, sometimes I pee on rugs,
but oh! I am so happy when my Mum gives me big hugs.

Mum leaves me in the house all day while she goes out to work,
I’m really not sure what that is but know she wouldn't shirk.
She tells me it buys dog biscuits and helps keep me in food,
sometimes it must be bad – she comes home in a rotten mood.

My Mum has lots of photos, she shows proudly to her friends,
I try to look appealing, show my best to the zoom lens.
My coat is white and fluffy. I’m very proud of that.
Mum gets mad if she sees muddy footprints on her new mat.

Sometimes when she is not here I get a little naughty.
'cause I’ve eaten all my tucker and played with the toys she bought me.
She’s learnt to shut the bedroom door, just to keep me out
I can no longer get her shoes and drag them all about.

I wonder should I tell her to leave the radio on?
It’s soothing lying on my mat, listening to a song
and it makes me feel not so alone – as if someone was near.
this is Finnigan Mum – signing off – how long till you’re back here?

Finnigan doesn't sound Maltese to me... more Irish. :P Winston Azzopardi is a good Maltese name. :)

Due to their experiences in WW2, the Maltese had a great admiration for Winston Churchill.

He's definitely Maltese and his Mum's name McNulty has I suspect Irish connections - that should explain a lot
