I actually thought of putting specific people in the poem, Neville but I decided that it might have become a bit tedious if I made it too long. On the other hand, every one of those venues would have people in the scene as Bob says - the shops, the pool, the park, the church (well, maybe not the church!). This is what was once described to me as a "list poem" and I think they can get boring if they are too long.
Broome's population, for anyone who is interested, was, apparently about 16,000 (this may be the whole shire) in the last census but rises to about 45,000 in the tourist season. Compared to my little town of about 4000, Broome fails the test as a small town. So, Matt can still do his homework!
