Beethoven and many of the great classical composers wrote music for lyrics ( in those days they called it libretto ) lots of it. To my knowledge he never wrote lyrics, only the music to suit. Mendelsohnn even wrote music for Shakespeare's poetry ( blank verse )
It's all been done before Neil. Many times. We can only follow in their footsteps.
