Homework W/E 5.8.13 Stock and Station Agent

Post by alongtimegone » Wed Jul 24, 2013 1:49 pm

The Stock and Station Agent

I really don’t know much about them stock and station guys.
And that’s okay they don’t know much ‘bout me.
But I thought I’d get a handle on what their work relies
and write some words to help out Maureen C.

I headed for the room in which my Hewlett Packard lives
and opened up a stock and station site.
I thought I’d browse around a bit and find out just what gives,
and discovered they’re on call both day and night

They work long hours. Travel miles, to help a needy client.
Some specialize in live stock auctioneering.
In the face of rural problems they’re steadfast and defiant,
friend and confidant of those in need of cheering

They monitor the market trends, and oversee transactions.
For their clients they’re the perfect go between.
Making sure they get a fair price from the different buying factions
at the many sales and auctions they convene.

Yes! For all those pioneers who venture out to work the land.
Whose life time to the bush they do devote.
The stock and station agent’s always there to lend a hand
to the families in areas remote.

Good one Warren. These homework topics send you all sorts of places. A bit like you, I found myself looking up road trains, thought they were just boggie doubles, but their not quiet that simple.

Cheers
Sue

Yes Sue. Although I spent 4 years in country towns I still had to research stock and station agents to write the poem.

  Oh well if it gets the brain cells working it can't be all bad - good on you Warren for having a go and for taking the time to ensure a degree of accuracy as well - you did good ;) and from personal experience these blokes earn their money and they do have their finger on the pulse as to what is going on as well and their advice is usually pretty sound.
