On Lures

Post by alongtimegone » Fri Aug 09, 2013 12:03 pm

Calling fishing a hobby is like calling brain surgery a job. ~ Paul Schullery.

I really don’t care much about where to go,
or what kind of fish I’ll be chasing.
But I promise you mate, just thinking about it
can start this old heart of mine racing.

Been retired a while and bought me a boat
and I’ve read every mag I could find
on squidgies and jigheads and hard bodied lures
and braid versus mono fil’ lines.

But I’ve always fished bait and need to know more
if I’m joining the ‘lure fishing’ band.
And like the pros tell me there’s no better way,
than learning about it first hand.

So I went down to Mossops and Charltons as well,
BCF and Tackle World too.
I’m telling you bro’they’ve got walls of the stuff.
Bloody hell! It’s a veritable zoo.

I was gob smacked. I just couldn’t tell where to start.
There were jerk baits and crawfish and grubs.
Stick baits and flick baits and minnows and shads
And stuff they’ve got soaking in tubs

There was yellow and green and purple and brown
And pink and orange and blue.
And that’s just a few of the plastics I found.
There were thousands of hard bodies too.

So fella you know what I’m thinking right now?
That maybe I’d better just wait.
This lure fishing caper has got me confused.
Guess I’ll just stick to fishing with bait.

I really don't care about much where to go
or what kind of fish I'll be chasing,
'cause there'll be no tale of the beauties I've landed
I'll go home as usual emperty handed.

That's what they make fish boards for Neville - you NEVER go home empty handed God forbid that's enough reason for the other half to put an end to your fishin' caper as a waste of time and money - but if you go home with something you get elevated to the ranks of hunter/gather and aren't you clever then

Love the poem - it lured me right in

Cheers
