W/E 9-12-13 'The Dark'
‘The Dark…’
Black, the night and eerie, moonlight ribbons through the trees
dart silently and swiftly on the figure ill at ease,
enshrouded by the velvet cape her hooded head bows low,
unslippered feet tread deftly through the bracken fern below,
and she whispers ‘Never tell, say never so’.
Grey, the river glowing, coils its spectral satin spine
around the weeping willows, midnight dancing serpentine,
she shyly stirs the water with a ballerina’s toe,
and forms a chalice from her hand and gently sips the flow,
and she whispers ‘Never tell, say never so’.
Black, the heart and heavy, thumping inside youthful breast,
is pumping, ever pumping at iniquity’s behest,
she lays the lifeless infant on a bed of indigo,
on midnight water-lily leaf, and says, ‘I love you, though …
I cannot ever tell, say never so’.

Well thank you Heather.
I know I'm recycling some of my old ones for the workshop. I'm not lazy...just busier than a dog with fleas! and I do like to support the faaabulous work our Maureen consistently does....(should that be persistently?)....anyway she's always at it, God Bless her. Many an ultimately prize winning poem comes out of Mausey's prompts.
In keeping with the subject matter...this poem is indeed a tad 'dark.' I have no idea what prompted it. I think I may have been reading 'Marian's Child' at the time. Glad you like it Heather. Hope you're going goodo love.
xx

Great poem Glenny. Marian's Child did come to mind, but yours is so evocatively written (as one would expect, of course!) And to get the whole feeling in three verses is fantastic.

and here I was thinking it was about Red Riding Hood - well the first verse had me thinking that
Thanks Glenny
and I don't reckon it matters if people submit something they've written previously because no doubt they have probably made edits to it at the same time and if it fits - why not. I love the refrain on this - it's very atmospheric. Love it.

I agree Glenny, a lovely Poem.
Like Robyn, Marian's child sprung to mind.
