Thank you for your kind words. This was written a few years ago and still feels a bit 'stiff'. However it seems to work as a lyric and picked up a gong as well. It's getting a run (as a song) later this year ...

Great poem Manfred, the old poly saddles were a good old heavy piece of gear , if you carried it half a mile to your horse.
they were a comfortable seat to work in all day. I first stepped into an old Cox Poly saddle as a teenager, on young horses that were freshly broken in. rode fifteen mile one way and fifteen mile back the next day. i understand the meaning of your poem as a horseman.
