The world don't care...
The world don’t care…
The world don’t care for rivers, where icy waters flow.
The water’s led by gravity. It goes where low lands go.
The world don’t care for mountains that reach up to the sky.
They’re formed by great compression, then they’re worn down, by and by.
The world don’t care for snowflakes that melt inside your hand.
They’re formed by simple physics, which is plain to understand.
The world don’t care for animals. Each species takes its chance.
They jostle down through history, a wild, erratic dance.
The world don’t care for human beings. They hold no special place.
The world don’t care if smiles or tear drops grace a human face.
The world don’t care for anything. You can’t deny it’s true,
But I do care. I care a lot. I care a lot for you.

That's a bleak outlook Stephen.
But if the world is not it's own cause then that changes things.

Re: The world don't care...
I guess what I am saying is that nothing in the world has any intrinsic meaning. The only meaning it has is the meaning that we impose upon it.
I might look at a river and find it beautiful, but the river is only beautiful from a human perspective. From any other perspective it is just water that finds its way through mud and rocks and weed obeying the laws of gravity. Do fish find rivers beautiful? Do herons? Perhaps. I don't know.

Re: The world don't care...
Interesting thoughts Stephen.
If we impose meaning on the world then where do we get meaning from? Who says that the meaning we make is meaningful ?
If the world has no intrinsic meaning then why do we search for knowledge of the world , on the understanding that there are discoverable scientific laws ?
Why do we assume that there is an intrinsically meaningful thing called the ecosystem?
Just some passing thoughts, stirred up by your verse.

Thanks, Neville.
I don't personally think anything in the world has any meaning at all, other than what we choose to bestow upon it. Nobody or nothing other than ourselves can confirm whether we are right or wrong. If we say something has a meaning for us, then it does. That's all there is to it. At least that's how I see it.

A very interesting and thought-provoking poem Stephen......you seem to have got a lot of folk waxing philosophical !
I suppose it all boils down to the question of was the world made for man - or was man made for the world?
Either way there is definitely intelligent design involved - just look in the mirror!!
You raised a few questions that Google can't answer I reckon! Good work!
