Aussie Rules!

Post by David Campbell » Tue May 27, 2014 11:17 am

Ohmygawd, it’s SOO time again, and that’s SOOOOOOO boring, so here’s a little tribute to the local product:

Aussie Rules!

There’s nothing much in Rugby League,
and Union gives me eye-fatigue,
with goose-steps, tackles, scrums and packs...
a cure for all insomniacs!

Yes, just like soccer, it’s a bore
where no-one ever seems to score…
just charging left, then charging right,
and thumping anyone in sight.

It’s wrestling on the move, that’s all,
with blokes who’ve learnt to catch a ball,
but that’s about their only trick,
for none of ’em know how to kick!

To call it footy’s just plain mad…
it’s more like “chucky”, it’s so bad.
Run up and back, then try again
to pass it backwards…what a pain!

A metre here, two metres there,
more stop than start, more flop than flair.
For Pete’s sake give the game some zing,
and make ’em kick the bloody thing!

And as for State of Origin,
well, who cares which of ’em might win?
Though if I need to go to sleep,
it’s twice as good as counting sheep!

No, rugby’s just a game of catch
which Aussie Rules can more than match,
a sport that was created here,
not pinched from far-off Warwickshire.

So when it comes to footy’s pride
there’s only one that’s qualified,
a game of spectacle and skill
that rules the land, and always will!

So here’s to footy’s one true king,
the game that makes the angels sing,
and come September all with rise
to shout as one: “Yeah, carna Pies!”

Love it David! :) With AFL I get that you kick the ball to one end and if it goes through the white posts you get a goal. This rugby thing though is really very perplexing and doesn't seem to make any sense at all. Men runinng and bashing into one another and then skidding on the ground at speed (I'm sure that must hurt). I do think there is a lot of skill in soccer though. I saw some of the soccer at the MCG for the 2000 Olympic games.

I've never tried a carna pie, anything like a meat pie.

You have a meat pie in one hand as you say it, Neville. :)

Thanks, Heather...yes, it's a strange old game. Agree about the skill in soccer, but any team sport that can end in a nil-all draw after 90 minutes is seriously lacking something. Like a goal or two.

Carna pie (for Neville): tough meat, fair bit of gristle, the occasional feather, and lashings of sauce!

Cheers
David

The trouble is, footy is looking more like rugby every year!

Oh David ... Heather ... ye of no appreciation for the true skill, athleticism, strength, endurance, cunning, and academically devised moves and counter moves ... what can I say except,
"You can't help it. It's almost genetic. You just live in the wrong part of our great nation. lol:

Rugby League - The Greatest game Of All.

You've Got To Be A Queenslander.

You’ve got to be a Queenslander
to understand the hate
of New South Wales – the cockroaches
on that other side of the gate.

You’ve got to be a Queenslander.
Generations of whom suffered crap.
Being humbled each year by our own born and bread
‘cause they played somewhere else on the map.

You’ve got to be a Queenslander.
A cane toad through and through
with a tattoo of Wally on your chest
and a fridge full of Queensland’s best brew.

Yes you’ve got to be a Queenslander.
Cock-roaches just can’t cogitate
that it’s much more than football come origin time.
It’s the way that we articulate

all that we’ve been and always will be
on ev-ery Queensland verandah.
Come Wednesday night let our voices be heard
shouting Queenslander! Queenslander! Queenslander!

You're for it David when Bobbo sees this.................hahaaa.

R L really is a most illogical game that only a bloke could have devised. What's the use of running flat strap forward towards the goal posts but chucking the ball backwards???

10, 9, 8 ,7 ......

It's a way of making the game more team-oriented, Glenny. I thought all you networking and mutually supporting women would approve of that!
