YEARNING
Maureen Clifford © The Scribbly Bark Poet
I am strong but you are stronger
in the end you run and breathe,
though the bridle tries to curb you
you are free – so you believe.
‘Neath the bright blue sky of summer
on the red dirt road you sweat
as you head towards the gidgee
flat out – Seems you did forget.
You’re a brumby that’s your heritage
you were wild and once were free,
but your days were sadly numbered
and now you belong to me.
Now your paddock is the six mile
and your mate’s the old blue dog
for those freedom days are over
and long gone like morning fog.
Here you’ll always be respected
and your heritage upheld
but the price for that is giving up
those hills you loved so well.
Though it breaks my heart to see you
yearning for those hills of home
they are no haven of safety now
for wild brumbies who roam.

Good one Maureen,
To me it's an entertaining concise poem that says all that needs to be said in Three verses, well done.
