Homework w/e 12/8 THE FANTAIL

Post by Terry » Tue Aug 05, 2014 12:02 pm

Probably should have binned this one – The Fantail was real enough the first one I’ve ever seen at our place

THE FANTAIL

The winter sun had cast its warmth upon the old bloke there,
and eased the aches and pain he felt while resting in his chair.
The garden held no interest; his mind was miles away,
out in the red dirt country where he wished he were this day.

For months he’d been held prisoner to ailing legs and knees,
trapped in a concrete jungle; there was nothing here to please,
The days were long and dreary and there seemed no end in sight,
was this the way he’d end his days or could things be put right?

A movement in the orange tree then seemed to catch his eye,
a Fantail flittered to and fro to snatch a passing fly.
At first he thought he must be wrong for Fantails don’t live near,
but when he saw it once again it filled his heart with cheer.

And visions then came flooding back of fishing in a creek,
where Fantails entertained for hours while chasing flies they seek.
Those long gone days had been such fun and life was filled with joy,
with memories of sun drenched days when he had been a boy.

The days became much brighter as he watched his little friend,
it seemed to lift his spirits or at least he could pretend.
He’d hurry out each morning; hope his mate would still be there,
then while away the hours, out in the garden they both share.

Why on earth would you even consider binning it Terry ? - It is lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it - so much so I am sharing it to our Facebook page - Fantails are delightful little birds and like you I enjoy watching them as well they bring a lot of pleasure into a garden I always think. Well done with this one - you met the challenge.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

That's lovely Terry - I feel the heartache and the hope.

I do not normally comment but Terry this is great.

I have an old bloke in the park who is slowly wilting away with liver cancer and he sits out every day to catch the rays and always has a wave or gidday to share.

Beautiful mate

Thanks Everyone
Glad I didn't bin it now.
we have lived here for 40 years and that's the first Fantail I've seen here.
He stayed about 2 1/2 weeks, I was sorry when he left.

Cheers Terry
