Thanks, once again Catherine. Yes, I do believe that listening to Leonard Cohen has started to rub off - (Neville ) I adore the song Dance me to the end of love - it's possibly my favourite. Cohen often has a waltzing beat in his songs and I've been playing his music a lot. It's amazing how quickly an eight hour car trip can go whilst travelling with Leonard!

I remember camping at Corryong one time and wanting to get up in the night and put a pillow over the face of all the snorers in the surrounding tents! Now there's a poem in that.

It's probably my favourite Cohen song too, plus I've got a Madeleine Peyroux CD with a lovely version. Also bought a Jack Vettriano picture years ago of two waltzers with the same title and framed it as a reminder, so I guess we're both on the same page there! x

I really think you've done well Heather. I rather like it. Yet I'd like to see a few more lines to really open up that passionate tone you have. Pour it out and don't keep those feelings closed when you have so much to share. Never let the shaddows hide the mirror.

Yes Mr. Leonard and his reverberating baritone voice does lend itself to his singing poems. I myself talk like Dath Vader and could never sing....oh well such is life.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Phil. There are some moments that simply don't need a lot of (or any) words and being held in the arms of someone you love and who loves you is one of them. Then, I think silence can say all that needs saying.

Yes I do agree. There are those special moments in life where words are not needed. Just a moment in time where everything is sublime; all is perfect. However, we are writing here and written communication is the medium. I'm sure you can understand its hard to convey passion in script and then post in a public forum. Writing is a good tool for the introverted to open up. What I've seen in poetry is a lack of emotion that really lights the fire....prompts one to go to the next level. Thats for me anyway....I seem to look for the beginning, middle and then the end....

Keep up the good work and I'd like to read more from you.....

Phil, my "style" if you will, is short poems that can hopefully convey a scene or feeling in a few well chosen words. I'd rather drip feed than pour. I know what any poem I write means to me and hopefully I leave enough scope for the reader to make something out of it that means something to them. Long narratives are never going to be my thing and I write first and foremost for me. If someone else enjoys it, that's a lovely bonus.

When I write an essay, a speech, or letter to the editor, that's when you'll get see me get wordy, but that's not what I want in my poetry.

Yes the comfort zone. No I understand what you mean and where you are coming from. Being a complex person I don't care to write something short but that's just me. Yes I've been accused of being too wordy many a time.

Self-expression is key when we write.

Recently I was trying to write something about a bridge......no not the structure....but the emotional bridge in our lives. Using word association and craft...its a challenge.

I can still remember dance nights on the weekend.
Years ago that was how most couples met (Val & I for one)

I was trying to recall what we used to call it when you danced real close barely moving around the hall.

Anyway brought back some memories - long time ago though.
