Cunnamulla Sky
CUNNAMULLA SKY
The day is nearly done at Greenbank station
A tired sun lays slowly down to die
We’ll dine beneath a million stars this evening
Underneath a Cunnamulla sky
I raise my glass and toast your health, my darling
As the waters of the Warrego pass by
And gaze across a land settled in Dreamtime
Underneath a Cunnamulla sky
The shadows growing long at Greenbank station
A million stars just seem to multiply
As darkness falls on land settled in Dreamtime
Underneath a Cunnamulla sky
Campfire flickers late into the evening
Firelight plays tricks upon the eye
Your head is laying soft against me dreaming
Underneath a Cunnamulla sky

I spent two years as a Cunnamulla fullah and have a few good mates out there still. Your poem does the town proud Allan, although dining under the stars was never an option for me, too many flies, but a great poem, very romantic. I enjoyed the read.

Just beautiful Allan - nicely done - shades of Diamantina Drover I thought - it was the tune that instantly sprung into my head as I read your words

Re: Cunnamulla Sky
Just lovely, Allan! My husband and I took the outback route with our caravan for a trip to SA in October last year - Charleville-Quilpie-Thargomindah-Cunnamulla and then on to Bourke.
It is a spectacular and wonderful part of Australia and we love it.
Cheers, Shelley
