Homework 18th May
My Mother, My Friend - Happy Mother's Day
The honour’s yours dear Mum on this your very special day;
respect, devotion, gratitude the tributes that I pay.
Though words could never tell the world how much I truly owe
to one who's seen me through in ways that none could never know,
supported me through good and bad, encouraged all the way,
(though sometimes disagreeing with the things I'd do and say!);
allowing me to make mistakes, acknowledge you were right,
then graciously assisting me to fix each foolish plight.
If I could be in any way like how you've been to me—
to give your time so naturally and so unselfishly,
to guide and counsel kindly with a non-judgmental heart—
I'd proudly call myself successful, just in tiny part.
We may not live close by each other, yet I hope you know
you walk beside me every day, wherever I may go,
example of the type of person I aspire to be,
a constant presence bringing smiles with every memory.
And meanwhile, deep within my heart my happiness still lies
reflected in the beauty of my mother's loving eyes.
