The Loved One

Post by Cropduster » Fri Jun 19, 2015 9:40 pm

The Loved One

It was so unlike her. She was never one to throw
something away so carelessly. Those who came to know
all the things for which she stood
never could
understand just why she would
choose to end it, dealing all who loved her such a blow.

Everybody liked her. Friends and family to a man
thought that she was truly happy. But she had a plan
to slip away into the night
end the fight
understand, try as we might
we can't defend it. We would stand and fight - we never ran.

Gathered now, we mourn her loss. The bitter tears that fall
will stain the ground in which she's laid. And while the worms that crawl
will return her to the soil
blood will boil
But anger now will never spoil
the memory of our special girl, so loved by one and all.

Very sad and poignant Allan. In the last 4 weeks there have been 3 suicides in our extended family or touching people we know well. Terribly sad when someone makes the decision that they cannot go on living. Or perhaps it is not a conscious decision - certainly it cannot be a reasoned one. I guess it is hard to understand the dark place that engulfs those who cannot go on.

That is indeed sad and tragic, Shelley.

The loss of a will to live affects so many.

Agree with sentiments conveyed. And I do like that rhyming pattern.

Cheers, Marty

Very moving and sad Allan. I do like the way you've used this different rhyming pattern too, as I think it enhances the feelings in the poem well.

Thanks Catherine

It is a little different, but I agree it just seems to work.
