The End

They told us we were finished and we never stood a chance
our players were too old to make the grade.
But they forgot the Queensland spirit and the love of this great state
I’ll tell ya now the piper has been paid.

The Blues had all the early ball but never looked the goods
the cry of Queenslander resounded through the stand.
One simple penalty that was all the points they got
then the Queenslanders said go and it was grand.

The procession was all one way as they scored try after try
you could see the Blues composure start to slide.
First Gagai then Papalii and when Inglis crossed the line
well the Blues just had no way to turn the tide..

Twenty to two at half time, it was like a cricket score
as our forwards proved too hard for them to tame..
And if they thought it would get better after Lauries half time talk
they took the field to cop more of the same.

Klemmer dropped it on the first six and I saw Daley hold his head
as the Queensland fans were screaming out for blood.
Cronk fired a pass to Hodgo who sent Gillet in to score
and it was just the prelude to a flood.

The Blues they looked bewildered at this surging Queensland tide
even our new players put them to the test.
Morgan, Boyd and Chambers added to a record score
with Thurston playing like a man who was possessed.

There was nothing he could do wrong, his class was there to see
nine goals from the sideline crossed the bar.
Records seemed to tumble as he set the ground on fire
and his ball skills well they left my jaw ajar.

Eight tries they scored to finish with, a record for the books
enough to make the staunchest cockroach cry.
I relish now the look of grief on every cockroach face
as Cam Smith held that cherished shield on high.

Well that was it all over another Queensland series win
some might say it was a pity or a shame
But it will go down in history as the greatest series win
the night that Queensland showed them how to play the game.
